About the Artist
Lives and works in New York City, NY.
Mary Ann Strandell is a painter of note. Her works are a movable terrain between image, media and their myriad histories. She engages the poetic and technological experiences of urbanity and nature through her discursive use of montage, staging and the decorative.
She recently completed an artist residency at Byrdcliffe, Woodstock, NY, as well as The Menaul International School, Albuquerque, NM. She is a recent recipient of an Arts in Public Places Commission from Arts New Mexico. Her upcoming New York exhibition, SOLACE, considers artists working inward to inspire a sense of calm. Recent exhibitions include Berlin Art Week with De Chiara Projects NY/Berlin; CURRENTS New Media, Santa Fe, NM; The Meme Salon with April Price Projects, Albuquerque, NM: Raid Envy at Lichtundfire, NYC, Shaky Ground at Lesley Heller Workspace, NYC: Transfer DOWNLOADS, Minnesota Street Projects, San Francisco, CA. Some of her awards include Arts Midwest National Endowment for the Arts, Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Fellowship, Tamarind Fellowship, The W.H. Over Museum Internship. Her works are included in many public collections, some include The Nelson Atkins Museum, The Newman Museum, The DiRosa Foundation, Fidelity Inc. London, The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, The Albuquerque Museum, The Polsinelli Law Firm, Los Angeles, CA and Kansas City, MO. She completed a M.A in Studio Art, and a MFA in painting and printmaking at The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. Strandell has taught as a professor of studio art, and graduate seminars in various institutions in the midwest and northeast. She lives and works in the NY city area.
